We started our company years ago to revolutionize consumer insights, marketing & innovation by integrating the behavioral & decision sciences into consumer experiences through Behavioral Design. Our work goes far beyond just "building brand preference" with consumers.  This is only a small reason why people choose the brands they do and takes significant time, investment and risk to pull of.  Our focus centers on tapping into the consumer's non-conscious to "drive consumer decisions" immediately in your favor.  

We deploy advanced research methods grounded in consumer psychology and behavioral economics to explain human behavior and use these insights to develop Behavior Designed advertising, in-store activations, UX, packaging and environments.

BEHAVIORAL INSIGHTS

Our behavioral research consultants use various System 1, projective-based research methods to identify the four psychological factors (Goals, Motivations, Regulatory Approach and Mental Models/Heuristics) non-consciously driving category and brand decisions in context.  

With these in hand, we can rapidly identify the exact psychological "mind state" that people are in when making decisions and then design a Behavioral Activation Brief to direct a new behavioral design strategy and specific marketing tactics designed to drive new behaviors.  

BEHAVIORAL CONSULTING

We know that many agencies are now saying that they generate "behavioral insights." But most of these same agencies lack the ability to actually take these deep insights through to actual tactical solutions because they have never lived on the client-side of the house..  

We're not like most agencies.  Our staff is specifically recruited from America's largest brands and know how to make behavioral design insights and strategies truly actionable inside large, complex organizations.  

Once your Behavioral Research has been completed, TriggerPoint conducts behavioral design workshops to puts these findings into direct action.  These Behavioral Co-Design workshops teach Behavioral Design concepts to cross-functional teams and agencies so that collectively we can solve for the key behavioral challenges uncovered or simply bring Behavioral Design thinking to life for your organization.

OUR MULTI-DISCIPLINARY APPROACH IS OUR CORE DISTINCTION

If you really want to understand consumers and what drives their actions, you must understand how context and psychology work together to trigger behaviors and this takes a multi-disciplinary approach to behavioral change.   

Therefore, to understand context, we conduct Behavioral Audits to uncover the primes, frames, and triggers that are naturally embedded in an environment.  We describe this as what is being "expressed" in an environment.

To address consumer psychology, we have conduct Behavioral Inquests to deeply understand the four core psychological factors that drive decisions.  Mapping these factors allows us to understand why people behave the way that they do.    

Our comprehensive Behavioral Model is the foundation of everything we do and is unique in its composition.  By integrating Goal Theory, Motivational Psychology, Regulatory Approach Theory and Behavioral Economics into one framework, we give our clients a much deeper and more robust understanding of all facets of consumer behavior.    

CORE METHODOLOGIES

BEHAVIORAL INQUESTS

Deep, projective qualitative research methodologies designed to deeply understand the psychological “whys” behind consumer and shopper behavior.  We utilize a variety of step-wise, psychology-based research techniques (storytelling, visual associations, emotional elicitations, etc.) to deeply understand the emotional goals, human motivations, regulatory approach, and mental models/cognitive biases influencing consumer/shopper behaviors.

BEHAVIORAL AUDITS

In-context analyses of decision environments that identify key psychological primes, frames, and triggers that are non-consciously directing behaviors at the moment of decision.  Behavioral audits help identify how the environment influences people’s decision-making and can be conducted on almost any customer/brand experience including in-store activations, apps, websites, and most marketing vehicles.

RaMP™ (Rapid Mind State Profiler)

RaMP™ is a behavioral science-based quantitative research methodology used to rapidly uncover your customer’s mind state (motivations, approach, emotions, and possible mental models) when making decisions in your category.  RaMP™ uses a projective, modified pair-wise methodology to identify your customer’s core implicit drivers of behavior in minutes, and then provides you with specific, behavioral design strategies + tactics that you can immediately use to drive new behaviors.

After 17 years of consumer insights experience in the CPG, Biotechnology and Energy Industries, Will saw an opportunity to blend his passion consumer insights with his expertise in behavioral science based design. TriggerPoint is the result of that passion.

Outside of TriggerPoint, Will enjoys spending time with his wife and their young son. He has also completed three Iron Man events, so it’s best not to challenge him to a foot race.

Before starting TriggerPoint, Will headed BrainJuicer Behavioral Labs & PepsiCo's Shopper Marketing & Retail Testing laboratory where he consulted on Behavioral Research & Design Solutions.

In 2011, Will won the IIR Explor Award for his ground breaking use of behavioral research and design to non-consciously drive cross-purchases at PepsiCo.

Melanie most recently worked at PepsiCo in the Strategic Insights group and over the course of her tenure led innovation strategy & insights for power-house brands Doritos & Lay’s. 

Like Will, she enjoys spending time with her family and young son. Which works out well since Will and Melanie are married. She also enjoys running & working on her latest book. 

In 2006, Melanie won the AMA Explor Award for advancing virtual shopping at PepsiCo. so she's a pro at developing the latest research innovations for TriggerPoint

Robert has worked extensively in the packaged goods and retail industries, providing him with the unique ability to bring insights expertise to all stages of the product and shopping life cycles, from product development and innovation to the in-store experience. His insights leadership has contributed to increased sales and distribution and built customer relationships for PepsiCo, Diageo, JCPenney, and Blockbuster. 

Robert holds a Master of Marketing Research degree from the University of Georgia and a B.B.A. in marketing from Texas Christian University, where he currently sits on the M.J. Neeley School of Business Marketing Advisory Board.  In his free time, he enjoys playing tennis with his wife, Claudia, and raising their two young sons.
